Microsoft acquired State of Decay developer Undead Labs in 2018. Its a digital key that allows you to download State of Decay 3 directly to Xbox Series X from Xbox Live. In a conversation with Polygon last year, developer Undead Labs stated an intention to continue building on the sandbox elements of the game. State of Decay 2 updated several times throughout its lifespan, including the narrative focused Heartland campaign and the Juggernaut Edition, which gave the game more open-world content and a series of graphics upgrades. The original State of Decay was released in 2013 for Xbox 360.
We don’t know much about the gameplay of State of Decay 3 yet, but the reveal trailer did show off a zombie deer. The trailer for State of Decay 3 showed a woman moving through the woods with her trusty crossbow, dealing with a natural ecosystem gone terribly wrong. Thursday’s Xbox Games Showcase showed off a host of first-party titles, including a new entry in the zombie-fighting, base-building survival series State of Decay from Undead Labs.
